Description

Coachman’s Rest takes the upper floor of an 150 year old stylishly converted barn. We love the open plan layout of this one-bed apartment – it’s such clever use of space. Couples enjoy the snug, peaceful location yet with ceilings that reach to the rafters, the apartment feels sufficiently spacious and feature-filled.

Climb the stone steps to arrive at the front door. Inside, the stretch of kitchen units has every appliance you’ll need, except a dishwasher. There’s even shared laundry facilities in the neighbouring Coach House.

FreeView, WiFi and a built in DVD player, plus a comfy leather sofa, make for a cosy night in. The apartment is warmed by central heating but for added comfort there’s a stove, with fuel supplied.

Peep round the lounge partition wall for the gothic-style, four-poster standard double bed and views towards the sea, as if from some Bronte-inspired story. For a soak, run the bathroom’s extra-long bath or jump beneath its showerhead when you’re eager to set off for the day. If you’re just milling around, choose the communal gardens or decked courtyard for a barbecue.

Along with its sister property, Old Stable, Coachman’s Rest can be booked to accommodate a larger group.

The Local Area

Port Mulgrave is midway between picture-postcard Runswick Bay and Staithes on the North Yorkshire coast. The location is ideal for ambling along the Cleveland Way or for cyclists exploring this magnificent heritage coastline. You needn’t worry about parking at Coachman’s Rest, there’s space on-site and you can walk to the local pubs at Hinderwell – we particularly like the Badger Hounds and the Brown Cow that you can walk to within 10 minutes. If you'd prefer a trip into Runswick Bay there's the Cliffemount Hotel Restaurant and The Ellerby Country Inn that both have a great reputation.
