Description

Off the beaten track, from the lane with the humpback bridge, Blackbird cottage could have been plucked straight from a Blyton bedtime story. It’s an 18th Century, two-bedroom cottage with lashings of character in the hamlet of Iburndale near Sleights. Surrounded by countryside, it has delightful, private gardens where birdsong is probably the most chatter you’ll hear during your stay.

But don’t let the backwater setting fool you, Blackbird Cottage has every mod con. Plug in an electric car overnight, flick on the inglenook stove or smart TV, climb into the bubbling hot tub for instant contentment – this beautifully styled cottage is enchanting for couples or small families.

The ground-floor lounge, kitchen and bathroom (with a shower bath) lead to a garden room, which overlooks the cottage garden and its cute bothy for barbecuing or drinks; it’s secure here so dogs will be happy pottering.

On the first floor is the serene double room with feature sliding doors. Climb the very steep steps to the cosy attic twin for skylight views of Little Beck. The steps won’t suit everyone, but this is a fabulous find for those wanting adventure.

The Local Area

An ideal location for walking and cycling. The nearest pub, The Salmon Leap in Sleights, is a 7-minute cycle. From here watch the summer steam trains heading to Whitby or drive 10 minutes to Grosmont or Goathland (film location for Harry Potter) to hop aboard; there’s a pleasant ‘rail trail’ walk between the two stations. Iburndale is four miles from Whitby and equidistant to Saltwick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay – all worth a visit.

Great service. The cottage was very welcoming arrived early evening and the lights and heating were on so cosy and warm. The cottage was very clean. We had milk tea and coffee left for us which were really nice. Fantastic bathroom, the shower was awesome. Great pub close by. All in all, we had a great time, didn't want to come home. Thank you

Mrs B, Sheffield

This is a charming and cosy cottage and a welcome change from other, often characterless self-catering properties! It is beautifully furnished and feels very homely. We could definitely stay for longer here and feel at home. The kitchen is particularly well equipped and with plenty of crockery and utensils! We'd love to come back in the summer and make use of the lovely garden! Thank you, Robert and Sue, for a lovely stay with our dogs
