Whitby on TV – The Cleveland Way.
TV and Film crews can often be seen in and around Whitby. Quite recently we’ve had Tom Cruise filming his latest Mission Impossible movie in Levisham at the North Yorks Moors Railway Station, followed just a few weeks later by Harrison Ford at Grosmont Station near Pickering. It’s rumoured that this may have been a location shoot for another Indiana Jones film.
Whitby sees a whole host of celebrities, here to shoot for tv programs and occasionally just taking in the sights during the quieter months. There are also quite a number of TV travel series filmed along the coastline, for instance, the Cleveland Way, a 109 mile walking trail.
The trail stretches from Helmsley, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, to Filey on the east coast. The route from Helmsley to Saltburn-by-the-Sea traverses moorland scenery, through forests and steep slopes, that reward you with panoramic views over the Cleveland Hills and the rest of the National Park. The other half of the route from Saltburn-by-the-Sea to Filey, follows the dramatic coastline and runs along the top of some of the highest sea cliffs in the country.
