Rainy day activities in Whitby

Whitby has lots to offer wind, rain or shine.

Although we try our best to make your stay in Whitby perfect, the one thing we can’t change is the English weather. Being a coastal town, Whitby has many gorgeous warm sunny days but on the flip side, we also endure some very wet and windy ones. However, unlike being caught out by the bad weather when you’re abroad, you can still have a great time in Whitby, even in the rain!

Walks In The Rain

As with most holidays the key to enjoying every moment is to be prepared for every eventuality. Bringing a waterproof coat and wellies (or walking boots if you’re planning a longer walk) is highly recommended. If you don’t have waterproofs not to worry, as there are many excellent outdoors shops located in and around Whitby town. Unlike a hotel where walking into the lobby dripping wet might be looked down upon, returning to your holiday cottage after a refreshing walk along the beach front is no bother at all. Some of our cottages even have porch space where your wet clothes can dry.

Visiting The Indoor Attractions

Whitby has many indoor attractions ranging from the famous Whitby Abbey visitors centre though to the spooky and popular Dracula Experience. There is also the Captain Cook museum, which has a wealth of information detailing the life of the great man himself. If museums and tourist attractions aren’t your thing though, why not seek shelter in one of the many cafés, restaurants or pubs that line Whitby’s streets. You could even go shopping and take the opportunity to purchase some of the precious Whitby jet.

A Room With A View

Unlike hotels or bed and breakfasts, where you can be made to feel like someone else’s guest or often find that you have to wait for reception staff, staying in a cottage is very different. Your Shoreline holiday cottage is yours and yours alone for the duration of your stay. Why not stock up the fridge, open a bottle of wine and relax by the window with your loved one, watching the world go by.
