Remove from shortlist ShareDescription
You’ll find Fossil Hunters near the River Esk, which meanders lazily through miles of countryside upstream and empties idly between Whitby’s harbour walls, a 20-minute stroll away.
It’s a peaceful setting, at the end of a row on the purpose-built, modern Whitehall Landing development, and is reached easily by car. With two parking spaces and a garage, it is the ideal spot for a family and dog-friendly break. Bring your bikes to explore in the saddle or set off on foot along the riverbank path; enjoy the freedom that this location affords for discovering both Whitby town and the surrounding scenery.
Inside is light and airy, and the three-storey four-bedroom house provides plenty of room for up to six guests. There is an ensuite master room offering glimpses of the river, marina and occasional steam train, plus two single rooms and a ground-floor double. The kitchen-diner makes a brilliant social space and from here you can access the cloakroom, relaxing lounge and the private, enclosed exterior space that’s edged by woodland.
This is a stylish, welcoming and hassle-free holiday home that’s a manageable walk to Whitby’s main attractions.

The Local Area
Fossil Hunters is a handy location for dog walkers. You can wander along the riverbank, and you’re on the right side of the Esk to hike around Whitby Abbey and the headland. Fossil hunters should visit Saltwick Bay or drive north of Whitby to Kettleness or Runswick Bay. It’s a flat walk along to the centre of Whitby; in around 15 minutes you’ll be at the famous Swing Bridge and the countless boutiques, cafes and award-winning fish and chip shops.

Really splendid location and really enjoyed our holiday in Whitby. Excellent spot for walking the dogs and the cottage was well equipped & it was very tidy. We did find it weird that there were no doormats By the doors, though, and spread newspaper out just to make sure we didn’t make a mess of the doorway. The shoe rack that was by the entrance was very handy, but doormats would been good too. At the end of the stay we had to check out by 10am which was fine, but stripping the beds and bagging the bed linen and towels up in the correct respective bags was a little bit onerous, but no problem really. Overall, it was very good and was handy to walk into the town. Whitby is a great place and would like to visit Yorkshire again.
Fossil cottage was beautifully presented, comfortable and very well located for walking into and around Whitby. I would highly recommend staying there!
Very well equipped. Squeaky clean. Excellent position.
