Whitby Christmas Festivities
If you’re staying in one of our Whitby holiday cottages over the festive season, then you are more than likely wondering what festivities the town has to offer during your stay.
This year the town is hosting The Whitby Winter Festival, which is a range of events and attractions, which offers something for all age groups.
27 November – Whitby Ice Rink
The festival kicks off with Whitby’s first ever Ice Rink – An undercover rink in the centre of town, open from 10am till 8pm daily until New Year (except for Christmas Day) Pre-booking is essential. For more information and to buy Tickets please Click Here
26 – 28 November – Christmas Market
The Christmas Market opens at 5pm of the 26 November, followed by a 10am opening on the following two days. The switch-on of the Christmas lights will also take place at 5.55pm, followed by Greatest Hits Radio and Guests and Live music performances. There are various musical performances and entertainment throughout the weekend and a Spectacular Animal Friendly, firework display on the Saturday at 7.45pm.
26 November onwards – Whitby’s Dazzling Christmas
Each Day in December in the lead up to Christmas, business owners will open up a new advent window to show the amazing decorations for that day. Business and property owners around the town will be making a special effort to decorate and provide dazzling displays. Take a walk around town after dark to make the most of the displays.
3 – 5 December – Robin Hood’s Bay Victorian Weekend
Just a short drive away in Robin Hood’s Bay is the Annual Victorian themed weekend. Cobbled streets full of twinkling lights, Christmas wreaths, vendors selling Victorian treats such as roasted chestnuts. There will be carol singing, entertainment, arts & crafts stalls and how about taking a guided ghost walk! For more information Click Here
4 December – Krampus Run
Krampus is back! So, who or what is Krampus? On the Eve of the Feast of St. Nicholas, the Saint visits homes to give gifts to good children. He is accompanied by his dark counterpart The Krampus, who teases and punishes naughty boys and girls. Krampus festivals or runs are popular throughout Europe and Whitby is no exception. The parade will start at Whitby Bandstand and make its way along to the Whale Bone Arch. Enjoy the excellent costumes, the noise, and the spectacle! 4 – 24 December – NYMR, Santa Specials
Take a ride on a NYMR steam train from either Pickering or Grosmont Station and meet Santa and his helpers. Children will also receive a gift from Santa, assuming they’re not on his ‘Naughty list’! Booking is essential. To book tickets or for more information Click Here
27 November – 2 January – Adventure Quest at Whitby Abbey

26 December – Boxing Day Dip
Are you brave enough to run into the sea on Boxing Day for charity? Well if you’re not, then it’s worth getting wrapped up warm and going out to watch the participants in their fancy dress costumes and charging into the cold north sea and taking the plunge… literally!
