Overview
One of Whitby’s most prestigious locations! A historic, dog friendly and lovingly restored cottage sleeping 2/3 (and space for extra beds), in a sunny fisherman’s yard stashed secretly off the tourist trail.
Remove from shortlist ShareDescription
Reserve your spot in the sun in one of Whitby’s most romantic yards. This is such a rare find for a holiday hideaway and part of a collection of historic fishermen’s cottages accessed by foot just off Whitby’s tourist-loving Church Street. It’s like stepping into a peaceful dreamworld and little wonder why Lewis Carroll loved Whitby so.
Solar is Grade II Listed and dates from 1750. The renovation is sublime: whilst it’s contemporary, the design retains all the wonderful quirks and features.
It’s set over four floors with traditional, steep winding staircases between them. Sink into the sofa in the ground-floor lounge and for cosy nights in. Wander down to the fantastic cellar kitchen-diner to prepare food in the traditional range cooker. When it’s bedtime, head to the first-floor double and single bedroom. The attic bathroom has a bath with a shower over and further beds up here (additional charge) should you need to accommodate extra guests.
A star attraction is the shared courtyard, isolated from traffic and popular streets nearby. Set out the folding table and chairs, pour yourselves a drink and picture the fishermen mending their nets here over 250 years ago.

We loved everything about our stay☺️ Easy entry to the cottage. Cottage had everything you could need. It was raining & a little cold outside, but lovely & warm when we went into the cottage. It was literally in the perfect area for everything. We parked outside unload our bags then parked the car free 200 yards away. The sun came out & we had a fantastic coastal walk to Robin hoods bay where we had lunch and a few beers then got the bus back for £2 each. Going some lovely restaurants & pubs with live music Top weekend . Would definitely recommend it.
Solar cottage had been a great place - I would book it any time again. We loved the cottage, it’s well kept character along with all the comforts of the modernisation.
A wonderful property in a peaceful location. Been to a number of Shoreline properties and this is a great addition.
