Description

250 years ago you could have bumped into explorer Captain James Cook milling around the historic White Horse Yard. Our cosy little cottage is in the heart of Whitby but set back off a cobbled street, so you might not know it was there unless it was your regular haunt.

So, a peaceful break in bustling Whitby awaits and beautiful Calico Cottage won’t disappoint. We love this traditional-style Whitby cottage. It’s set over three floors with traditional steep staircases – from the well-designed kitchen off the back yard, to the master bedroom and its super comfortable sleigh bed at the top of the house.

The bathroom, which adjoins the kitchen, contains a bath and over-bath shower with fixtures that are in keeping with the historic surroundings.

In the first floor lounge you can get comfy in the big armchairs. You’ll need it after pounding Whitby’s streets, exploring the harbour or climbing the Abbey’s 199 steps!

In fact, it’s a really beautifully maintained and comfortable cottage and there's plenty nearby to fill your days.

The Local Area

Leave cobbled Church Street, stepping through the alleyway of the White Horse & Griffin Inn. It’s so handy being in Whitby’s historic East Side and the old stomping ground of Captain James Cook! You’re just a few paces from famous swing bridge over the pretty River Esk and near to shops, restaurants and Whitby Abbey. We find the best parking further down Church Street, five to ten minutes’ walk away.

Probably one of the best locations I've been in. Amazing little cottage, loved it. Wouldn't stay with anyone else but Shoreline.
