A unique, character-packed cottage hidden in an historic yard, once home to famous Whitby lifeboat coxswain Henry Freeman. Fashionably refurbished and set amid ‘old Whitby’ for holidays full of nostalgia.Add to shortlist Share
Grade II Listed Bakehouse Cottage successfully combines history with style and is not to be missed. Only those in the know will find it - tucked away in the heart of Whitby’s West Side through the archway next to the Star Inn. The luxurious cottage is set over four floors with steep, twisty stairs to three bedrooms.
We can’t quite believe how many features it packs in, from exquisite parquet flooring to cast iron fireplaces and beamed ceilings. The clever use of space creates a bright and roomy feel and no expense has been spared. There are three immaculate bathrooms serving six guests - an en suite, a wet room with a rain shower and a house bathroom with a roll top bath.
The sleek kitchen on the entrance level has every appliance you’ll need. The large dining room even has the original wood-burning stove, used for cooking and heating once upon a time.
Descend to the lounge via the spiral staircase to big, inviting sofas, a TV, Wi-Fi and stereo system for a cosy night in. In fact, you might never want to leave.

There’s no parking onsite, but call us about spaces to rent, or park in a public car park five minutes away. You’re one road back from the quayside near banks, shops, cafes, restaurants and amusements. Visit The Dracula Experience, Whitby Whaling or take a ride on the daily steam train from the station – a five-minute walk. The miles of beaches start at the nearby West Cliff so bring your buckets and spades!

Stopped here for 5 nights, hidden Gem right in the middle, would go back here again.
The high spec of the property, the size and location is outstanding. If looking for a large luxury house in central Whitby and willing to pay a little more than for the traditional hit and miss 2 bed fisherman's cottage then this is for you. Would definitely return.
We recently stayed at Bakehouse Cottage and had a lovely time. The cottage was perfect.
