The Whitby Spring Angling Festival Opens The Fishing Season
The Whitby Spring Angling Festival 2014 is taking place between 5 April and 20 April 2014. The event marks the start of the high sea fishing seasonand attracts anglers from all over the UK.
Every year in Whitby, the local charter skippers hold 4 angling festivals which are spread across the fishing season; one in April, one in July, one in September and an Up tiding Festival later in the year (generally in November).

Which fish species can lurk around Whitby’s Waters?
The wide varieties of fish species which populate the waters around Whitby make it a very attractive destination for keen anglers.
However, during the spring months, smaller species such as cod and ling prevail. Despite this, big catches are not uncommon at this time of year with many fish weighing over 30lb and the winning fish sometimes reaching around 45lb.
How to join in the action
Anglers taking part in the Whitby Spring Angling Festival will often group together and charter a boat.The entry price is set at £40 per boat and the entry price is often split amongst the group of anglers.
However, it is worth bearing in mind that some skippers will take individual bookings if their boats are not fully booked.
