Whitby set to receive government funding to boost popular steam railway service.

Whitby’s business park and the heritage railway are set to share around £3.4 million of government cash to boost job creation and also make environmental improvements. The breakdown means that the business park will receive £2.8 million to improve access, provide support to the associated offshore wind farm, whilst potentially creating 221 jobs.

Whitby station is set to enjoy the construction of a new platform with £800,000 of the grant going to North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR), as part of the government’s scheme to provide assistance to around 20 seaside towns in England.

The grant would allow the amount of steam trains that go through Whitby Station to go from 3 up to 5 from April next year, providing an additional boost and motivation for tourists and train enthusiasts to come and explore this bustling seaside town.
