Whitby Prepares For Fun-Filled October Fortnight

Three fantastic events over next two weekends! Find out what's happening in Whitby this October.

Over the next fortnight, Whitby and surrounding areas will host a range of exciting events for all ages. Whether you’re a history or food enthusiast, or have a passion for outdoor sports, Whitby is definitely the place to be this October.

Scarborough Surf Festival

The surf festival is held this weekend (the 6th and 7th of October), featuring the UK Pro Surf Tour, fighting it out to become the victor of the highly sought after UK title, as well as a mountain bike freestyle show, of course complete with live music from a host of local bands to suit every music taste. Located on North Bay, Scarborough and will feature the third round of the UK surf tour where the hottest prospects of UK surfing will display their talents in the hope to be crowned with the UK Surfing Title.

Last year, a massive 10,000 people attending, enjoying a fun fuelled day for all the family. The action shall commence at 10:30am this Saturday, finishing at 5:00pm the following day.

Whitby Railway in Wartime

After that, it’s time to grab the fur jackets and vintage preppy dresses, and head down to Dock End and Endeavour Wharf to experience Whitby Railway in Wartime. Not just for the history enthusiast, experience traditional steam trains, venturing to Goathland, Grosmont, Pickering and a variety of other destinations. As well as this, you can enjoy a 1940’s tribute singer, the Ryedale Folk Museum, 1940’s trader stalls, free cooking demonstrations and much, much more.

Running throughout both days on Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th of October, relevant costumes are optional, but highly recommended.

Filey Food Festival

Running on the same weekend as the Whitby Railway in Wartime event, head to the Evron Centre in Filey to try both local and specialist food to suit every taste bud. This is the first ever food festival event in Filey, and will include demonstrations (of course using local produce) and various food from around the world.

Destined to be a popular event on the Filey social calendar, make your way to the Evron Centre or Crescent and Glen Gardens from 9:00am until 5:00pm for a little taste of something new.
